Defining the Product

Vinidex AquaPRO® is the registered trade mark for the Vinidex underground water storage system.
Vinidex AquaPRO® is a system of 900 mm diameter pipes in 3, 4 and 6 metre lengths and uniquely designed fittings which can be joined together to provide a large volume underground water retention system
Vinidex AquaPRO® systems are designed by hydraulic or civil engineers / consultants using a Vinidex designed software package (Vinidex AquaPRO® Planner) available on this website.
The “Planner” allows the designer freedom to specify a water retention system to suit the land or site available and to meet specific water storage requirements.
The shape and configuration of the system rests in the hands of the designer.
The system is uniquely suitable for large volume underground water storage applications and is not intended to compete with underground water tanks.

Key Requirements
Key Requirements are defined as the “desired or sought after” features of any underground water storage system
These are the “customer needs” deemed to be uppermost in the minds of specifiers, designers and end users.

Material
The Vinidex AquaPRO® pipe is manufactured from high molecular weight polypropylene block copolymer which has a high stiffness and impact strength.
The Vinidex AquaPRO® fittings are manufactured from medium density polyethylene which has excellent impact strength, superior crack resistance and toughness.
Both of the above materials are members of the polyolefin family of materials.

Chemical Resistance
Vinidex AquaPRO® polypropylene pipes are resistant to corrosion by aggressive soils and substances typically found in sewage effluent, including most industrial discharges. Therefore, the question of chemical resistance is likely to arise only if the pipes are used in unusual circumstances.
Chemical resistance is affected by concentration, temperature, period of contact and stress. Polypropylene is resistant to weak inorganic acids, organic acids, alcohols, ammonia and oxidising salts and has limited resistance to aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones and ethers.
Polypropylene is generally not recommended for aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons. For more details or to check resistance to specific chemicals, refer to the Vinidex Chemical Resistance Guide (VIN067) available from our sales offices.
Temperature
Vinidex AquaPRO® pipes have high temperature resistance. Continuous service temperatures of up to 60˚C and short term applications of up to 90˚C will not adversely affect the performance of StormPRO™ and SewerPRO™ pipes.
Weathering Resistance
StormPRO™ and SewerPRO™ pipes are manufactured from compounds containing additives which ensure their resistance to ultraviolet light and weathering during handling and storage.
Pipe Lengths
Vinidex AquaPRO® pipe is available in standard spigot/socket configuration in 6m nominal lengths.
3m and 4m lengths are available to ensure any retention system length configuration can be achieved.

Australian Standards
The Vinidex AquaPRO® pipe and fittings are manufactured in accordance with AS/NZ 5065:2005 “Polyethylene and Polypropylene pipes and fittings for drainage and sewerage applications
The structural engineering analysis and design of the Vinidex AquaPRO® fittings was carried out by Cardno (NSW) Pty Ltd.
Cardno certified that designs are in accordance with normal engineering practice and principals, the relevant sections of Australian Standards, test reports and design loads.
Further details are available on demand.

Traffic Loading

AS/NZ 5065 classifies pipes according to their minimum ring bending stiffness in short term laboratory tests. This is a measure of a pipe to resist deformation due to external loading. Stiffness classes are identified by a SN number where the higher the number indicates greater resistance to deflection of the pipe.
The Vinidex AquaPRO® pipe has a stiffness classification of SN8.
Of major concern to designers and specifiers is the Vinidex AquaPRO® system ability to withstand heavy traffic loads.
Where there is a need for Vinidex AquaPRO® systems to withstand heavy vehicular traffic loadings the system layout should be designed in a manner that subjects the pipe components of the system to heavy traffic loads and the fittings (and surrounds) to light vehicular traffic loads.
To Whom It May Concern
Following are results of design calculations for DN900 StormPRO twin walled polypropylene corrugated pipe (as used in the Vinidex AquaPRO® underground water retention systems), in accordance with AS/NZS 2566.1 “Buried flexible pipelines. Part 1: Design”. The calculations are based on the following assumptions:
Pipe diameter and class – DN900 StormPRO manufactured to AS/NZS 5065
Depth of cover – 750mm
Trench width – 1700mm
Native soil type – clayey sand, sand clay mixture (SC), En = 2 MPa
Embedment soil type – 5mm – 10mm gravel compacted to 90% dry density, Ee = 7 MPa
Traffic loading – Austroads W7 + T44 multi-lane wheel loads
Results:
Pipe stiffness – 8,000 N/m/m (ie. SN 8)
Maximum deflection at 50 years – 3.7%
Factor of safety against buckling – 3.5 (≥ 2.5 is considered safe)
